Summary
Shadow has always felt this pull towards Amy he can't understand.
They're friends. He's honored to be considered a friend, and he's self aware to know he barely deserves that. And he doesn't understand why she's like a gravitational pull in his chest, why she makes his stomach flip, why his heart acts out of line whenever she's around. Being near her makes it better. Being farther makes him feel pathetic. So the distance he is at now is perfectly workable; he's alone, but he likes that, and Amy is something he can admire from a safe distance. The distance he deserves.
Besides, she's dating Sonic. He's happy for her, in a way. She was happy with him.
Or at least Shadow thought she was. But one late-night ride he finds her abandoned outside the club, heroic boyfriend nowhere in sight, and because she is his friend, he offers her a ride home. Somehow that snowballs into a torrid storm of infidelity he can't understand, riddled with feelings that make it worse, and he has not a soul in the world he can confide in. The situation only gets worse and worse the longer Shadow lets it go on, but he can't say no to her.
Even worse? He doesn't want to.
