"Is that what this is? You're jealous?" Ramona scoffs. She takes a step, closing the distance between them. Despite her better judgment, Oona can see the tension in Ramona's shoulders, the way it constricts her movements in that stupid fucking jacket. "That's fucking great. Real classy of you. I got to witness you fuck your way through practically all of Ontario but the second I get a girlfriend, you can't handle it."
Oona hums. "Slut-shaming me now? Nice one, 'Mona. New York has changed you." The nickname is not part of the plan. It slips out of Oona's mouth and it hangs in the air between the two of them; Ramona's eyes widen at its familiarity.
or: Ramona comes back to Sterling Point after a year and a half away. With a girlfriend. Neither Oona nor Ramona handles it very well.

Summary
Ramona’s night would probably be going better if she wasn’t in love with her best friend and watching said best friend flirt with Stacey fucking Mallory on her dead grandfather’s couch.
Ramona glances back towards the cottage. “Your date’s probably looking for you. You should head back.”
Oona blinks in surprise. “What? She’s fine. I’m here with you right now.”
“Are you?” Ramona has no idea what she’s playing at but the bewildered expression on Oona’s face only seems to egg her on. “I mean you barely said two words to me tonight until now.”
“Ramona I…” Oona starts to defend herself before Ramona watches the realization slowly settle across her face. And then her mouth curves upward. “Oh.” She says it softly.

Author Edit: First draft originally published Aug 10 but have since added 2000+ words as of Sept 16, changed the dock scene completely, made it spicy, and fleshed out the narrative a bit more! (Got self conscious after a few readers said this fic was making the rounds on Twitter so I had to step up my game)

“Watch,” Oona said, stealing back her zippo, lips ‘round the mouthpiece. She held up the flame, tilted the bowl, and Ramona watched her char a few centimeters before taking a hit.
“You’re no better than me because you can do that, you know.”
Oona regarded her. She was silent for a while, long enough that Ramona bristled. Long enough that she couldn’t look away from her eyes.
“Can’t believe I still have to teach Miss N.Y.C. how to do this. You’re falling back on your game, city girl.”
