Summary
Ayda's thumbs run over the back of Fig's knuckles, scarred and bumpy as they are. Fig can feel that warmth that she had felt earlier flood her chest. It overwhelms her, leaving her reeling, and she knows her heart would be racing if it could even beat anymore. For a second, she deludes herself into thinking that it does, indeed, start again.
It hits her with the force of a stake to the heart, but also with the feeling of heat. Everything seems to slot into place immediately, like pieces of the jigsaw puzzle that she'd occasionally work on with Gilear and whoever else was around. Her eyes widen, something imperceptible, and her mind doesn't stop racing, doesn't stop tallying and putting everything together.
She's totally, irrevocably, in love with Ayda Aguefort.
Or: Figueroth Faeth, wizard's paramour, realizes she's in love.

In the corner of her vision, Fig’s arms are crossed tight. “Is that- is breaking up something that you want?”
“No.” Ayda has no room for thought on the matter, and the answer bursts out of her without hesitation. “I enjoy being your paramour. I enjoy spending time with you. I enjoy the way that you allow me to see the world in a new light through our interactions. I enjoy our relationship very much, but I know that I am often more invested in things than those around me, and although I do not want to lose this, I want even less to force you to remain in a position that makes you uncomfortable.”
There’s something unreadable in Fig’s voice. “You think I’m uncomfortable?”
Ayda hums. “You appear more stressed than usual when we are around each other.” A pause, and then, plucking at the clasps of her shirt: “You do not touch me with the ease that you touch others.”
