Everyone in The Pitt is a fucking gossip.
Emery's known this for years. Nurses and residents and med students and security will cycle in and out but the one fucking constant is that everyone loves to knee deep in each other's lives. It's worse now than it's ever been. The Filipino nurses are no joke.
Emery's not immune to it. She makes damn sure that she's not the subject of said gossip- outside of a surgery gone well - and she doesn't add to it, but she doesn't actively avoid it when she's down there. Especially on days like today.
She's not working on July 4th.

Her body wouldn’t keep up with her brain, and then her brain started to slow down too. A tiny fever, which she thought she’d stopped in its tracks with some good candy medicine. Congestion and headaches. More medicine. Fatigue. Dizziness. Body aches. A night of hurried studying and preparation. Now she’s sharing a bed with syrup formulas, population projection graphs, and A Brief Modern History of the Breakfast Kingdom volumes 5-8. And a light shadow of very sweet-smelling sweat.

Summary
It apparently takes about a day for Bonnie to fix her own brain. Then she fixes half the kingdom’s infrastructure, and then she tries to fix her relationship. Like painting nail polish over the scratches on a sturdy piece of furniture. As unhelpful as it is uncalled for.
Marceline is beginning to identify some things about herself, and one of them is that she likes to hide in plain sight. Instead of denying it completely, she’ll twist hurt into anger or smugness or really loud music. She’s like a pufferfish that way, and Bonnie’s more like a hermit crab, with an enormous and intricate candy shell.Bookmarked by Slack

The reasonable parts of her are dimly aware, of course, that she’s the only one doing so. Bonnie’s doing her calm and collected act— or at least trying to, while also flipping through eight different books at a time with the fervor of a starving yet very picky person in a grocery store. She’s not shouting at all; she’s just kind of muttering and sighing and nagging, nagging, nagging. But when Marceline’s reasonable parts call her out for inaccuracy, it just makes her want to shout at herself too.
