Summary
Shane and Ilya are soulmates (obviously) in a world where you can always feel how far away the other person is. It's one thing to find your soulmate at a hockey tournament in Regina. It is another to realise that being able to tell where your soulmate is might suddenly mess up your hockey career for life.
"For his entire life, Shane has been conscious of how big the world is. There has always been an itch, a feeling that something is too far away. It has never been painful but it has been constantly there, the feeling that things will never quite be settled. He is not the only person in the world with this feeling, for a start, he knows implicitly that there will be someone else with the same feeling somewhere distant because that is how soulmates work.
