“Because you won! And I think you deserve a prize.” The malicious intent was audible in his voice, and something dark gleamed in his eyes.
“Is the prize a peaceful death?” Charlie tried, an unconvincing grin hastily plastered onto his face.
The sheep man’s voice took on an echo, and his smile showed far too many teeth. “Nope!”
Charlie slowly returned to awareness, and the first thing he noticed was how… wrong everything felt. His body felt far too wet, far too numb. He tried to raise an arm, feeling it bend at an unnatural angle as it made a horrible squelching noise. Whatever the sheep guy had done to him, it definitely didn’t seem like much of a prize.

Summary
After successfully reaching the 8th floor's staircase, rather than an interview or the next floor, Carl finds himself transported back in time. Back to the when the dungeon first began.
He quickly discovers that he's caught in a time loop, and he isn't alone. The only other person who remembers the previous loops? The System AI.

A myriad of emotions pass over Lyle’s face in short succession: confusion, then hurt, then shame. And then something she doesn’t expect: anger. It only makes her laugh harder still, bent double in bitter mirth.
Finally she looks up with an unsettling grin, wiping the corner of her eye. “Oh, it makes you feel human, does it?” Leigh snickers. Lyle glowers down at her, small and defensive, a storm with no bark and no bite. And Leigh says, “come on now— we both know Sam is the only one of us who still gets to be human.”
