    Nightwing watches his brother start swinging his feet, thinking about something that he’s not privy to.
    It seems that they’re both having a hard night but he can’t be out for much longer considering that his notifications keep pinging every few seconds with Bruce wondering why he’s been in the same spot for so long especially since patrol is over and yet he doesn’t want to leave his brother alone.

    “Come back with me tonight,” he coaxes, holding out his arm and hoping that Jay takes it.
    “Alfred’s made cinnamon rolls,” is the next thing he says to sweeten the deal and he watches the tension from Jason’s shoulders disappear in real time before his guard is back up again.

    Or how the Batfamily welcomes Jason with open arms after his death despite him trying to push them away.

    It had been an incredibly long and tiring night for Gotham's vigilantes. The rain was pouring hard, almost violent in the way it hit the ground. The ripples on the surface of puddles were rapid and sharp, splashing outward and hitting the ankle of any passer by. People were hurrying home, desperate to escape both the weather and the danger of Gotham during the night time. It was barely midnight, but chaos had already struck and no one wanted to stick around to see it all play out.

    Thankfully, the vigilantes had put a stop to the trafficking operation, and could pass over to the GCPD for clean up and taking care of the victims and ensuring the perpetrators were locked behind bars.

    Or buried. For those that did not survive. Which admittedly was most.

    A completed mission leads to a rehash of conflicting morals, but this time, Jason doesn't hold back.

    Well, now what? If anything, he felt out of place here. He didn’t pray as much these days, not much when he was a kid, even less now. What would he pray for anyways? For guidance? For safety? Maybe…

    Awkwardly, he pressed his hands together.

    “I uh— don’t know how I’m supposed to start these but… Can you send me a sign that Derek is okay? I don’t know where he is— I don’t even know if he’s still alive… What if he’s in pain? I-I wouldn’t forgive myself if he was…”

    …

    “Please… it hurts to think that he’s out there suffering while I’m here sitting just fine. I can’t even sleep anymore! I… I can’t…” Tears started rolling down Avery’s cheeks. Here he was, begging for something almost impossible. “Please, I…” He couldn’t even speak anymore, he was too caught up sobbing about this man he’d never met. His head in his hands as he broke down for the first time since what happened.
