    “No! No, no he’s my friend, he’s - uh, well, the engineer of the Hail Mary,” says Grace. “Look, I’m just saying that - he’s gonna wake up soon, and we don’t need to tell him about how our first meeting went. We can gloss over the whole ‘tackle me to the ground and scare the daylights out of me’ thing. I won’t tell if you won’t.”

    Simon is 90% sure this is going to come back to bite him in the form of blackmail but he nods anyways, because it sure as hell sounds like Grace is implying Simon will be allowed to stay a while longer.

     

    Rocky sleeps through the absolute shitshow that is Simon and Grace’s first meeting. It’s probably for the best.
    Despite it all, it will be the start of beautiful friendship.

    Wake up, go out of infirmary, tackle RG to the ground, RG have flashback;
    Sees stars in window, reveal universe travel;
    Agreement not to tell R;
    S told about R, sleep, meet;
    RG and S eat dinner, dinner real food, rest amoeba shakes, give (empty) calories and nutrients;
    S like the plants on board;
    Hail Mary stated as falling apart, not build for longevity;
    S hear the communication between them before they saved him, forgot;(K3)
    S find out food only last 5 months with him, 10 without, 1 month till Erid;
    S threaten to kill himself, R firm no;
    S learn simple Eridian words;
    Nightmare for both;
    8 days out signal from Erid;
    Accusation of hostage situation, R claim as clan, insult accuser;
    R feel bad because you don’t just claim like that, reassure more than happy;

    Simon may have lost most of his humanity to the blood, but he wasn't going to lie down and wait for his demise.

    He would fix things, he would redeem himself of his sins and, most importantly: He would be on his best behaviour until possibly-a-COI-scientist Ryland Grace and his totally-not-another-murderous-alien Rocky help him get out of AT-5.

    Don't mind his lack of legs and excess of scales and fins, that's a problem for another day. Also don't mind the fangs peeking out of his face and his claws. He's 100% safe to board the Hail Mary, trust. :)

    Gracie was perfectly fine and happy with his life in Erid. He really was.
    Simon just wanted to live. What would he be willing to do to get it? Simon meets a strange, unusually clean man who tells him he's safe with him. It has to be some kind of trick, a twisted game he doesn't yet understand. But he's willing to play to get what he wants.
    Grace could communicate better; it would save them a lot of trouble.
