    Bai Yutang wakes to a cry choked in his throat and skin slick with sweat.

    He hadn't been sleeping—well, not really. He'd just leaned against the wall and closed his eyes. He hadn't realised—he must be more tired than he thought. His skin prickles faintly, and he hunts around for a scrap of cloth to daub at his temple, the hollow of his neck, to deal with the worst of it. He'd really like a bath, but he'd bathed just a day or two prior—it's hardly a necessity.

    Still, he feels dirty. There's no reason for it, of course; no need for him to…the residence they're in might be ramshackle and have a thatched roof that leaks if you tread too heavily, and dust motes linger in the air, but. It's not filthy.
