    Summary

Merlin lifts the dagger but motions for Mordred’s hand. His bare skin feels cool and soft to the night air, as Merlin grips on lightly to him. “You and I will be bound together, for Arthur’s protection.”

There’s no hint of distrust in Mordred’s eyes.

Not only it was funny, it was convenient: If they pretended they did they things they did because they were in a relationship, no one would think to be suspicious of the magic and the crimes.

or: five times they were "caught" + one time they were actually caught.

    Summary

All Arthur really wanted was to get away from the citadel for a while. But humor can be taken too far, and there are limits to the abuse a man-- yes, even a servant-- should be forced to accept. When a joke gone sour threatened to destroy a friendship he hadn't realized he'd grown to depend on, Arthur knew it was up to him to make amends, and maybe grow up a little in the process.

    Summary

Arthur had forgiven the magic. He'd forgiven the lies. He'd forgiven the mistakes. He'd forgiven the unintended consequences of actions taken with the best of intentions and the worst of outcomes. But this... this was beyond forgiveness. Post-Camlann.

“He’s not a god, Arthur,” she said quietly.

“Ah. No, you’re right. Of course he’s not a god. Just the all-powerful, immortal incarnation of magic itself. Silly of me to get that confused,” said Arthur.

“This still isn’t his fault, Arthur.”

"Whose, then? Who can I blame, Guinevere?” His mouth tightened. “Who did this to us? And why?”

“I don’t know,” she said, wretchedly. She didn’t. She wished she did. She wished she had someone to blame—almost any scapegoat would do. It would be so much easier if she could hang the guilt around Merlin’s neck.

It would hurt so much less.

He would let her, and never say a word in his own defense.

Maybe that was why she couldn’t bring herself to do it. “I don’t know, Arthur. But… I do know that Merlin didn’t kill our son.”

Arthur’s voice was harsh. “You’re right again. He didn’t.” He turned away. “He just chose not to save him.”
