But no, he knows that's not true. Love, once given, isn't a thing that can be taken back, and he gave it to Cheng Xiaoshi long ago. And if he can't keep Cheng Xiaoshi safe, then at least he can love him, with his whole self.
Love, he knows, is its own kind of immortality.
