Summary
...Mira knows too much about the ones who know about her, like her father. She knows that slipping up even once would be enough to get herself stuck forever, until she died, and there’d be nothing she could do about it. She’s already lived through having to narrowly escape that fate once, and she’s not looking for a repeat of that, even if it means she sticks to rules that are a little too over the top and intense. Mira also knows that failing would be beyond detrimental to her, a fate worse than death, and that keeping people out—all while making sure to keep an eye on the ones who get too close—is ultimately a kinder fate than what she could expect if she got it wrong.
It doesn’t matter if anyone is actually hunting her or not; Mira hasn’t stopped living her life like someone is as soon as she learnt what it meant to get caught, and she’d rather live like this than risk fucking up and getting caught in a trap.
Foxes are meant to be clever, anyway. Mira likes to pride herself on being particularly evasive and hard to catch.
(or, fox selkie!mira runs right into rumi and zoey, and, for once in her life, doesn't feel trapped)
