Summary
"And stop," Stolas purred, his voice like an irresistible tug on an invisible leash in Blitz's head. His hand froze instantly, trapping the simmering lust inside him, capturing it and holding it and preventing it from escaping, no matter how hard he tried to make himself stroke or squeeze or buck into his hand.

"Are you feeling any better?"
Blitz winced at the gentle question, feeling so unworthy of the kindness in Stolas's voice that the words felt like nails scratching against the chalkboard of his mind.

Summary
Pomni could feel the tension in the air as each of them waited for Kinger to explain why he had called an emergency meeting.
Kinger sat in an armchair, hands clasped in his lap and thumbs tapping together in a nervous rhythm as a heavy silence hung over everyone. Then, the chess piece took a deep breath and spoke, calmly and firmly. “I found one of Caine’s backup files.”

Summary
“Y—You’re not…mad…?” His voice was so soft compared to the ‘Ringmaster’ tone he’d used earlier. The chess piece’s heart broke to hear him sound so frightened.
“Oh, bug—” the pet name came naturally to the chess piece, like something his human self might say to his own daughters on a daily basis. “—No, no. I’m not mad. Here. Why don’t you come a bit closer, and I can hold you for a bit if you’d like. To help you calm down a little. I know, out there in the real world, when my girls are upset, a hug usually helps them feel just a little bit better.”

Summary
From his mistake causing him to lose the first human, Caine had never been able to do anything about Abstraction. Once a human succumbed, they were beyond his ability or knowledge to fix. He could only put them away where they couldn't cause any further harm. He didn't know of any other solution. And with how much closer he was getting to the other humans, the more that he cared about them on a personal level, and the more the past failures taunted him...
But they were learning more about Abstraction. The dark, the quiet, and the calm soothed them and made them safer to be around. Pomni managed to briefly connect with Jax's fading mind. He clearly didn't know as much as he believed about the phenomena.
If he didn't have the information necessary to prevent or even reverse Abstraction, then perhaps someone else knew. It had been a very long time and humans were very clever. Someone out there could have an answer. He might be able to find a solution to help his humans if he could just learn more. And he'd recently found a new source of information after years cut off from any input.
But abandoned computer systems don't get anti-malware updates. And the internet wasn't as safe as it seemed for an AI...
