Severus had always known that he would die in a painful, most horrifying way ever since back when he was almost beaten to death by his father, then mauled by a werewolf, then thrashed around by a maniac overlord. His miserable, luckless life only seemed to lead to that one day when he would be struck down by a bloody snake, of all things.
Bleeding out in front of Harry Potter was just the last humiliation Lady Destiny had in store for him.

Not your average time travel fix it. Snape and Dumbledore have the best interactions. This is a bildungsroman for a man who lived and died as an emotionally stunted teenager. Dumbledore is the perfect blend of melancholy, suspicion, trauma, and morality. Not a pairing fic but James/Lily is in the background as I prefer.Even though this is largely from Snape's perspective it is so clear everyone thinks he's a baddie. It's horocrux hunting with a twist

author's tags say this isn't for Snape lovers but this Snape lover always appreciates a fic that recognizes his absolutely despicable cruelty. Harry and Neville are only boys and Snape is determined to take all his misplaced rage and abuse onto them. -

Summary
Nearly two years after Sirius’ “prank” Remus finally agrees to allow his friends to accompany him on the full moon again. But Moony has not forgiven Sirius, a fight ensues and the werewolf becomes separated from the others. Then the unthinkable happens. In the morning Remus wakes to find the thing he fears most in the world. He goes to the only person he can think of who won’t judge him – because Snape already knows what he is. A monster.
