He hadn’t cleaned his hands of the rose petals, not wanting to let go just yet. He could hold onto them for as long as he liked, unlike how he couldn’t hold onto Ada just that little bit tighter. He closed his hand over the flowers, digging his nails into his palm so fiercely that he considered the possibility of it drawing blood, imagining how it would blend in with the dark red of the roses, blurring the lines between him and Ada even further.
The surgical removal of Hanahaki means forgetting about your unrequited love. Leon is forced to let go.

He had half expected Chris, maybe Sherry or even Claire, or at least someone from town who needed something.
Not dark hair shiny from the rain, sharp features he still sometimes saw in his dreams that would leave him empty in the morning.
“And most people don’t answer the door with a handgun.” A smooth voice came, the smirk heard even if not visible. “Hello, Leon. It’s nice to see you, too.”
Ada Wong.
It’s been 32 years since Raccoon City. 2 years since any last remnants of the Umbrella Corporation, its rivals, and all B.O.W.s were destroyed. 15 years since Leon Kennedy had last seen or heard from Ada Wong. Suddenly, she shows up at his door in the small town of Millbrook, where they’re both retired and both having nothing else to do with their lives. “Oh, are you on assignment, too?” Ada gasps in mock surprise, and immediately Leon knows he’s walked straight into her trap. “Now that’s a coincidence, if I’ve ever seen one.”

The cop only vaguely recalled the writhing degrading corpses grabbing onto his leg and back, sinking their discolored teeth directly onto his flesh, through his uniform while pus-colored fingernails scraped away, breaking skin. Leon wasn’t even sure how he had been able to escape; it was all a blur of blank fleshy faces and sickening guttural noises.
All Leon had felt was the raw, primal urge to survive.
It was like Leon had become a monster himself, renewed with inhuman strength, ripping off the gnawing heads, biting, scratching, kicking, anything, just so he could live a second longer.
Perhaps that was scarier than the zombies themselves.
