The first night, Paul was relieved to die.
It was over, thank fuck. He'd saved Emma, the world hadn't ended, and he could finally rest- because fuck, he was tired.
As he faded, he thought that honestly, he had the right to be tired; seeing as how he'd just been through his literal personal hell and watched his friends die.
Yes, he thought to himself as he felt his eyes close, a piercing blue light still somehow seeping through, he deserved to rest.
And then, he woke up.

Paul watches her with those glowing eyes, head tilting in wonder as his smile softens again into something that looks almost real.
"Don't worry, sweet Emma," he says in a robotic voice reminiscent of Zoey and Nora's back at Beanies, what feels like so long ago. "You'll see soon enough."
He chuckles, turning to stalk leisurely down the corridor, his footsteps and laughter echoing. He leaves Emma to collapse in on herself, wrapping her arms tightly around her legs against her chest as she curls against the wall and sobs dryly into her knees.
