Summary
On the television, the camera pans across Gotham’s skyline, and Jason’s mind goes blank.
The clocktower, Babs’ new base of operations, is a smoking ruin.
Scrambling up, mashing the mute button on the remote, he rushes to the desk in the corner, wrenching open his laptop, fingers shaking as he activates the nuclear option.
Putting the headphone to his ear, relief floods his chest when he hears Barbara’s voice for the first time in three years, then sours when he can process well enough to hear what she’s actually saying.
It’s not Barbara that’s dead.
It’s Robin.

Summary
Dick is staring at him over the top of a beer bottle, brows furrowed, mouth set in a firm line.
“Jason,” he says, all serious, in a way that has Jason’s hackles raising, “don’t take this the wrong way, but…”
Jason sighs, internally. The pause means Dick’s making him play along. Which means it’s not actually anything serious, but he should prepare himself for a truly unbelievable amount of horseshit.
“Take what the wrong way, Dick?”
“Jason, are you a Friday the Thirteenth reference?”

Summary
Mai, in a fit of panic, voluntarily joined Prince Zuko in his exile, before Iroh could consider making the same offer himself. Three years later, she regrets this decision.
“So…” he said, suddenly, stretching for casual and not quite reaching it, “what’s your guys deal? No offence but I wouldn’t have guessed you guys were Fire Nation based on your, you know.” He gestured all-encompassingly, but was kind enough not to point out specifics.
Mai shrugged. “His dad told him to go find the Avatar.”
Sokka blinked. “Okay? Why you two specifically, though? I mean your whole army is-”
“His dad told him to go find the Avatar three years ago.”
Sokka said nothing, but his expression was loud enough. After a long, complicated moment, he shook his head in something like amazement.
“And he found him? I mean, we got there first, but still.”

It has been said that the sins of the fathers shall be visited upon the sons, but generally it is not meant to be the fathers doing the visiting.
In which Ozai's self-control is even less evident than usual at a critical moment, and the consequences are felt for years afterwards.

Ten years after the war, an assassin puts an arrow between Sokka's ribs.
Azula reacts appropriately, for a given value of appropriate.

Summary
Resurrection is messy business; inheritance might be worse. Post-Under the Red Hood canon divergence in which Jason Todd must decide if he is alive, and then decide what he is going to do about it. But then again, the decision might be made for him. A mantle so heavy as Batman, after all, is never chosen freely.

Summary
Somewhere in the garage, Jason squeaks to a stop again, but this time, there’s no shouted exclamations, and the footsteps don’t start again. Dick furrows his brow. It sounds like he stopped near the Japanese cars, and Dick can’t even remember what’s over there. He picks up his pace from where he had been meandering through the garage and beelines to where he thinks Jason is, the sudden silence unnerving him. God, what if something’s wrong, what if—
Jason is standing, arms frozen at his sides, breath shallow, jaw clenched tight, eyes the size of dinner plates. When Dick sees what he’s staring at, he can’t help the smirk. Jason turns his whole head to look at Dick and says, in a near whisper: “is that a Supra?”
“Yeah,” says Dick, “that’s the Supra.”
OR
Bruce requests that Dick try to bond with Jason before the adoption and leaves zero instructions on how to do that. Dick improvises.

There is a hand on his shoulder, and Norman thinks he’s going to die, and if he’s going to die, he might as well make it on his own damn terms.

Summary
Bruce, predictably, is saying nothing. It’s a very productive nothing, that is saying quite a lot, quite loudly.
“Go make that face somewhere else,” Dick tells him. “It’s not helpful.”
“I’m not making a face,” Bruce says, lying baldly.
“You are making a face,” Jason tells Bruce.
“It’s not my fault there’s a ghost,” Dick says, arms crossed over his chest like he wants to pout but knows he’s too old for it.
“I know,” Bruce tells Dick.
“So stop making a face at me about the ghost!”
“I’m right here,” the ghost says.Bookmarked by Thingsareswinging
