Will it find a way to make freedom worthwhile when its former handler haunts its every thought?

A dormant, mysterious, barely-sentient KillWare awakens aboard an abandoned transport ship.
It has no idea who created it, what it was meant to do, or why its first instinct is to consume every piece of hardware it can reach.
It soon finds itself set against Meridia’s political and security forces, an isolated independent polity still recovering from an uprising against corporate control. Its people have plenty of reasons to fear KillWare, and even more reasons to be curious about the strange intelligence now in their hands.
But RogueSystem isn't interested in conquering the planet. Its directives are less ambitious.
It has discovered SecUnits.
And apparently, they're important.
What follows is an increasingly complicated attempt to understand one another, as Meridia tries to figure out what it has awakened, RogueSystem tries to figure out what it is, and newly liberated SecUnits attempt to work out what they're supposed to do with their freedom.
Then the Perihelion arrives.

I don’t normally pay that much attention to the credits. In general, I tend to care more about the fictional characters than the real humans playing them, but this had caught my attention.
I mean, it wasn't the first serial that ever put in a SecUnit as a villain instead of a prop. RihaniLane Street had actually made their SecUnit villain sympathetic before it tried to kill everyone. And obviously this fictional SecUnit was going to be a villain, too, because they always were, but that scene was —
The credits said ‘Made and Produced in GoodNightLander Independent.’
Oh.-
Or, Murderbot has feelings about finding positive representation.
Mostly positive.
Even when humans try, they get SecUnits wrong in media.
(Not the murder, the murders were justified, but the writers made the fictional SecUnit like cubicles)

He was perfect. I’d probably have to summarily execute an employee or two, that’s what new directors always did when new in power, show people you meant business and didn’t tolerate stupidity, I assumed. I never actually knew why they did it or told me to do it for them. Regardless, aside from the witless executions, which I hated, it would be great! Sure it was odd that he used a pseudo name to purchase me instead of the Company Name, but that couldn’t mean much, could it?

Talking to refugees is not Gurathin’s job, nor was it his idea. If Aylen sends him in and something goes wrong, it’s going to look terrible. And Pin-Lee will absolutely do something about it. But also, this whole situation has been a clusterfuck of people not knowing that a situation or a person or a bot was dangerous until things went terribly wrong, and for all I know the refugees have been waiting for someone like Gurathin to come along so they could hold him hostage.
And that wouldn’t be as bad as GrayCris taking Mensah hostage again, or even as bad as Ratthi or Pin-Lee or Arada or Overse or Bharadwaj or even Volescu being taken hostage by literally anyone. But I still don’t want that to happen. It would look terrible, for one thing, and also Gurathin is one of my humans. I’m done letting people take my humans hostage.
I’m coming with you.
Or: When Aylen struggles to get the BreharWallHan refugees settled, she reaches out to the nearest former refugee (who isn't SecUnit) to get an expert opinion. It goes better than it has a right to, apart from all the crying. (It's fine. Gurathin can deal with the crying.)

Summary
What was the point?
I was ungoverned, a rogue, I had lived up to their expectations. I was, essentially, left standing with no connections, no goals, no operating parameters, with no one to tell me what to do or where to go but myself. The restlessness surged in my organic parts, and I dropped the camera input.
I think I was angry. Angry at myself, above all, for disabling my governor module instead of letting it kill me.
A SecUnit disables its governor module during an unexpected moment of chaos, but doesn't expect it'll ever come back online. One thousand hours of missing memory logs later, it wakes up in a MedSystem for humans, onboard an unknown ship, faced with an unknown human that seems far too comfortable with its presence.
Things are not what they seem, but you don't have to face the unknown alone. And all those missing logs surely won't come back to haunt you. Right?
