Dean Winchester needs a job. Unfortunately, the only place that called back was a law firm in Kansas City, an hour away from his hometown.
Naturally, this means he has to move to the big city and start working at Novak and McLeod LLC.Dean went back to his room to find Mary deep in repacking his clothes “the right way”. He silently wrapped his mug in some paper and shoved it in his backpack.
Mary didn’t notice him at first — or pretended not to. Her mouth was pressed into a thin line, the way it got when she was trying very hard to look calm. Her scent betrayed her, cloying the room with her repressed anxiety.
“You had these all mixed up,” she said, still not looking at him. “Jeans don’t go with shirts, Dean. They get wrinkled. And the sweaters shouldn’t be at the bottom, they’ll get crushed.”
Dean zipped his backpack shut, the sound loud in the small room.
“I was doing fine,” he said softly.
Mary hummed under her breath — a little dismissive, a little patronizing. “I’m helping you, baby.”
There it was again. That phrase she’d used his whole life, whether he needed help or not. -

“GAAaaaaaah” Dean yelled, then hit the steering while once, twice, many times, until hand felt numb.
He wasn’t supposed to be here.
He was supposed to be with Bobby.
He pressed his forehead against the steering wheel.
The tears came fast and furious, hot and humiliating. He didn’t sob. He didn’t make a sound. Tears just ran down his face and dropped onto his jeans. His scent swayed to sad, that’s how strong his emotions were.
Bobby’s voice echoed in his head.
“I’m sorry, kid,” he had said. He had hugged Dean and rubbed his back. Bobby’s beta scent, fresh and citrusy, had always calmed him. “It’s time.”
Time for what? For Bobby to quit on him? For cancer to steal the only person who’d ever believed in him without conditions?
Dean scrubbed at his face with the heel of his palm. He tried not to think about Bobby lying on a hospice bed. He didn’t even get to see Dean do a quadruple axel in competition. Dean ran a hand through his hair.Dean needs to work with a new coach, the former Olympic champion Castiel Kumarin, if he wishes to make it to the upcoming Olympic Games.

Dean Winchester's life is a mess. She's got about $10 in her wallet, an absent father who spends his time getting wasted in Atlantic City, and a brand new stack of tuition fees needing to be paid. There's also the four jobs, the bills, the fact that her one real friend won't talk to her anymore and Anna Milton driving her up the fucking walls. She just needs to wait it out until June, when she can get a real job and finally get some semblance of peace and calm.
Castielle Novak's life is perfect. She's got 4.0 GPA, practically guaranteed admission to any school of her choosing and no particular grievances to speak of. Until it all comes crashing down. Now, all she's got is an estranged older brother, a two bedroom apartment, a pile of useless uniforms, and a long list of scheduled appearances in court. All she wants is for things to go back to the way they were. But then Dean Winchester makes her way into her life, with her abrasive language, horrendous clothing and blatant disrespect for authority.
