Summary
Tim was tired. Not the “I need another cup of coffee” tired, but a bone deep exhaustion that plagued his every waking moment.
Everything he did felt pointless. The rogues were always breaking out of Gotham, an endless loop, with people dying no matter what he did. He could never be a good enough vigilante to save everyone. He couldn’t even be a good enough vigilante to save his dad from Boomerang of all rogues. What kind of hero was he?

Summary
Good thing he didn't go to the cave. He'd hate to be around the bats with this in his system.
That's when he hears his window slide open, traps apparently silently disabled. Nightwing is crawling through his window.
"Tim?" Nightwing calls.
"No. Nope. Nuh-uh. I don't want you here," Tim says as he springs up from his seat, papers fluttering to the floor around him, and rushes to push Nightwing back out the window.
"Hey! No- Tim, wait!" Nightwing struggles against him. He contorts his body oddly and slips fully into the room. "I'm just here to make sure you're okay."
Tim has to be very careful with this conversation. Worried about what will come out if he tries to say he's fine, he goes with saying, "You don't have to do that. Now leave." Nightwing ignores him, dodges him, and wanders over to his workstation, craning his neck to casually look over the papers.
Or: Tim gets dosed with an experimental truth serum and spills his guts to the bats. Apologies and comfort ensue.

Tim is five years old when he drowns in his parents' pool. He dies quietly, waiting for parents who love him, but will never be there, to realise that something is wrong. They never show up, and he sinks into oblivion.
When he wakes up and claws his way out of the water, the sun has set, and the lights of his house are on. He is cold and wet and his lungs burn.
But most of all, Tim is alone.
