SPOILERS FOR THE GAME, LIKE SERIOUSLY
Verso let Gustave die on those cliffs, but he couldn't bring himself leave him there.
He should know that despite good intentions, his sentimentality has never ended well for him.
This becomes even more evident to him as he watches the picto he contained Gustaves chroma in, dissolve into his skin.
or
Verso now has his own personal ghost- Gustave
and Verso is the only one who can hear or see him

Summary
"A boy from the Writers’ Guild? Really, son?"
Their mother's voice almost cracked at the final word. My, this must be bad. She couldn't hear Renoir, but her soft-spoken father was most likely beside Aline and holding her by the side right now. He would not intervene until Aline would relent, or explode."He is not a writer, Maman. How many times do I have to tell you? He's an engineer—"
Or: I can't help but wonder... what if there was a real Gustave outside the canvas?

Summary
Gustave let go of a heavy sigh and nodded his head. Back in the Stone Wave Cliffs, he had come to peace that this was where his journey ended—For those who come after, right?—but it seemed like his story wasn't done just yet. Maelle had, somehow, given him another lease on life, and this time, he could live it. He could grow old. He could do things simply for the sake of doing them; every waking moment didn't have to be dedicated to trying to solve the issue with the Paintress, with preserving their civilization.
--
Or: Maelle returns Lumière to its former glory, but... things just seem a bit off. Gustave investigates. -

Summary
When the faceless boy asks Verso to look after his sister, he reluctantly agrees. He should have known that living among the people of Lumière, with friendship, community, and a sister who is not his sister, would derail his plans.
Gustave holds on to hope that one day, he will defeat the Paintress and create a future for his city and the man he loves. But hope is a fragile thing, especially when what you believe in is built on lies.
The road to salvation demands a heavy toll. Tomorrow comes, one way or another.
The shout on Gustave's lips died when the white-haired man spoke again.
“What happened to your face, Verso?”
“Just a temporary measure.” Silvery chroma curled from Verso's head, and just like that, most of his scars were gone, leaving behind the face of a stranger. Questions, words, crowded in Gustave’s mind, but he couldn’t string them together into a sentence.
This wasn’t Verso.
This was Verso.
Updates Fridays. I know some of you are here for the smut, so I must admit that according to my calculations, this thing is 95 % drama and 5 % smut (good for them). If you're looking for the 5 %, please check the notes for Chapter 1.
