Ursa fled with her first-born Son, after the Fire Lord raised his hand against them in an unimaginable act of cruelty, especially against Zuko, once more.
Hakoda didn't expect that he would drag a new member to his Crew out of the poor settlement in the North of the Fire Nation, instead of the supplies his ship needed.
Now it was up to him and his Crew, to ensure Zuko's survival.

She stared at Chao in mute horror, which he apparently assumed was awe.
“Great, right? They’re called sea prunes.” His grin grew wider, and her heart sank. “And guess what?”
“What?” she asked, numbly.
“I got another six crates waiting outside! He had loads of the things!”
Sea prunes are served at Firelord Zuko's coronation feast. Some people are more enthusiastic about this than others.

"She offered her prayers and thanks to the gods, particularly whichever one had decided to take mercy on her brother’s fall. She felt a breeze brush past her bangs, one that sounded like a sigh, and thanked them more fervently. She hesitated, then continued with the request that had been resting heavily upon her heart.
“Please let Mother keep loving me. Please let Zuko keep loving me,” she whispered, not sure who she was asking anymore.
