Summary
"Her parents were dead. And when Harriett curled up on the cot, wishing she had the invisibility cloak to cuddle, she wished she was dead, too."
-
Harriet tried to be good. She tried to do what she was told even when she didn’t want to, tried to be quiet and pretend like she wasn’t even there. But no matter what she did, how much she tried to be a mouse, everything with teeth seemed to find her to take their pound of flesh.
And now, what Harriet tried to do most of all was to never, ever tell.
[Featuring: a female Harry Potter AU, the intrusion of social services (because it's dead weird social services were never involved), an escaped convict from Azkaban, some self-destructive behaviours, and vampires. Because we all need vampires.]

Summary
I could say, perhaps, that there was something I could have done to change how things had played out. That if I hadn't skipped my lecture, had taken a later bus, had gotten off a stop closer to home, things might have ended differently.
Yet what happened was outside of any mortal control. Maybe it had been an accident; simply a small hole in the fabric of existence I had happened to fall through where others hadn’t.
Either way, I ended up in a place from whence I could never return.
My soul torn asunder and sewn to another.
And perhaps I was better for it.
Even if I was dead.

Or: a mortal dies and a mountain, once prosperous, grown from a chasm, now lays desolate; housing only a dragon, an ethereal jewel, and purpose.

An illegitimate child, Callidora Black was never treasured for anything more than her pure blood. Kept locked away in Malfoy Manor, she is hidden from greater Magical society, with only her Wireless and novels for company.
When the Dark Lord rises from the dead in a graveyard, Lucius Malfoy must once again reverse damage caused by pro-muggle sentiments on the political and societal landscape of the Wizarding world — even if it means using children to do it.
