In which everything is different, except that Dean isn't a serial killer, Castiel probably isn't a serial killer, and Dean and Cas are still Dean and Cas.
Or: The alternate first meeting that isn't as alternate as you'd think, but exactly as awkward as you'd expect.

Summary
So he finds himself standing in the middle of a run-down motel, letting himself be dressed by a human.
He doesn’t quite remember getting from there to here, but it doesn’t matter. This human’s soul is good, and so he trusts. There is nothing else to do.
“I only got one bed, but, uh, we can share,” the human says. He radiates nervous energy, and Castiel supposes that a bloody angel- fallen angel- showing up on your doorstep would be quite disorienting. Then again, humans used to worship angels almost to the level that they worshiped God. Perhaps times have not changed, and the human is simply awe-struck.
“I don’t sleep,” Castiel says, and then he blacks out.

Backdrop of this fic is a post Season 12 finale AU. Crowley died to trap Lucifer, but Cas made it out. He took Jack and got away from the Winchesters because, nothing had changed, the Winchesters wanted to remove Jack’s grace, and when that didn’t work out, wanted him dead. While on the run he encountered Juliet the hellhound who was grieving for Crowley. Cas, Juliet and Jack hid from the world in a remote cabin in the woods, but the world would not leave them alone. They dealt with Asomodeus, the angels, and another encounter with the Winchesters. They fought to live freely as who they were, and with the family they deserved.

Edwin and Charles eventually have forever to figure it out, but Charles just died, Edwin is remembering how to people, there is the spirit of a dead kid that doesn't want to leave his mom, and finding a sense of purpose is something even the dead need to do.
Technically part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.

"There's no safer place for you than here," Dean assures him, as the impala climbs upwards, the road turning narrower and bendier. "It's a hunter's guesthouse, kind of. Really quiet area. No one will ask questions."
"I see," Castiel says, hands tightly folded in his lap.

As Cas is ordered to leave the bunker, he doesn’t end up at the Gas n’ Sip. Instead, he becomes a worker at a hunter’s guesthouse, situated in the middle of nowhere - where time appears to stand still, and he is left with an aching human body, relentless human chores, and recurring nightmares that feel distinctly like memories. So, he copes with his new form of existence the obvious way: by learning to shoot guns, ride a motorcycle, and to entertain the incessant flirtations from the other resident James.

Summary
After S15e03, while on the run from his grief, Castiel drained the last of his grace to save a stranger's life. He became human and settled down in Boise ID, and adapted relatively well to human life. One of Castiel's new human experience was a symbolic ritual, which worked as intended to bring him some peace of mind. When he encountered Lilith and was killed by her, the supernatural layer of the ritual was activated, and it restored him to a fully powered Seraph. However this newly restored power only made Dean more hostile and suspicious of him. What will Castiel have to overcome to continue his fight for the universe and to defeat Chuck?
Alternate Season 15 after "the Rupture", chapters 8-12 run parallel to cannon until the end of "Gimme Shelter" (when Jack revealed to Cas he was to become a suicide bomber), then completely divergent. However, the underlying assumptions/lore etc are mostly within the framework of the show.

After "Jack in the Box" and beginning of "Moriah". Castiel convinced Jack and took him on the run from the Winchesters and the Apocalypse world hunters, who were actively planning to hunt Jack down and kill him.
It wouldn't be easy. Because of all the pain and trauma both had endured. Because both of them had been so isolated, they had no friends and allies left.
But forget all that. The most basic, most urgent threat they faced, if they wanted to start a new life out in the world?
