Consciousness burst in Morty’s head like a firework. His eyes snapped open, but for an awful moment he was blinded by an unexpected light. The world faded in and the pain in his eyes faded out, and the thundering of his heart slowed as he gradually remembered where he was. He put his hand to his aching chest. Beside him, Jay and Prime were wearing twin expressions of deep concern. They both had their hands on him, like they were afraid he was going to float away if they let go.

Even the dusty earth they’d been walking on seemed burnt, taking on the hue of a sun dried tomato. The occasional wind provided no relief either, it was like walking face first into a giant hot hair dryer set to high. It had been less than a fifteen minute walk from the ship as they tracked the signal, but from the way both of them sweated, you’d think they’d been walking for hours in this desert.
