It’s Raphinha’s hoodie, he’s pretty sure, that Fermín’s got bundled up between his cheek and the wall like a makeshift pillow. His hands are limp in his lap, fingers uncurling towards the ceiling. His freshly washed curls are dripping all over his shoulders and the plastic bench.

Maybe go to a single’s night at the bar on 5th Street.” So it wasn’t just Coyote who was to suffer from the woman’s meddling. It seemed this was something of a pastime for her. “No, I want to hear about how Road Runner’s courting has been going.”

At that, Roy snaps back up to attention, his heart thundering up against his chest. “Jamie’s a man, Mum.”
“Oh! Well, alright,” Mum says slowly, her voice carefully thoughtful. And Roy knows, he knows deep down to his bones, that he’s an idiot to hope that will be the end of it. There’s a long enough pause that the feeling begins to swell in his chest, when, “Well, I think that’s wonderful, Roy. I can’t wait to meet your boyfriend at the wedding.”
