He even knew exactly when it happened - it was a hot day in July when they'd been desperate to keep cool, and Mr. Gavin had shed his suit coat and sat in front of the electric fan, his eyes closed in quiet contemplation, and the fan tugged at the tight curl of hair on his shoulder until it unraveled into long, wavy ringlets, fluttering in the soft breeze. Summary
The main fic, Vargas, explores what might have happened if Johnny hadn't killed Edgar back in Issue 2. It roughly follows the events of the comics and beyond, although a lot of things change in big and small ways due to Edgar's presence.
Johnny infects Edgar with a mental parasite (much like Devi), who Edgar names Scriabin. Their relationship is... complicated.
Every fic in this series stems off of the main one in some way, although some of them explore some very different paths. So to an extent you should really read Vargas first before any of the others. I usually mention somewhere where in the main continuity each fic falls.
