When John had shouldered open a door in the bar, he hadn't really expected to be greeted with the sight that he was. By all means, it should've been a wholly uneventful night out. He was just looking for an exit to temporarily escape Franklin's idioms and metaphors and what-have-yous.
He really didn't expect to see Mr. Jefferson, naked from the waist down, settled in Mr. Lee's lap. Mr. Lee, who was also half naked, and who appeared all but buried inside of Jefferson.

There is so much that went wrong, so much he regrets and he wishes, with all his being, he could change it. Could at least ensure those that managed to get away really make it out alive.
A second chance, he asks, begs, really. Just give me the chance to save them.
The being behind him pauses and Arthur can't look away from the moment he's frozen in, staring at the dark mountainside, aching to see the sun rise just one more time.
