Summary
Louis throws back the last of his sazerac and clicks into the call two minutes late on purpose, his laptop propped on the kitchen table in the middle of a quiet day – a rarity these days, but Claudia is at school and he has about forty minutes before he has to go get her.
“Mr. du Lac,” the boy says, tongue curling over the consonants and in his voice, Louis thinks, home. The thought is unsteadying, which makes Louis’ defense system instantly come up. He’s supposed to be in control here.
It’s probably the French, he knows. He doesn’t get to hear it often here in LA.
After their previous one quits without a proper notice, Louis caves and hires another au pair for Claudia. He expects him to fail. Lestat has other plans.

Lestat, freshly showered, sits on the couch in pajamas and a silk black robe, absently flipping through one of Louis' books.
"I don't mind sleeping on the couch tonight," Lestat says, setting the book down, eyes trailing after Louis.
"You're not sleeping on the couch," Louis scoffs. He enters the bathroom, not bothering to entertain the conversation. "The bed is huge."
"I just want to make sure you're comfortable."
"If I wasn't comfortable, I wouldn't have come out to the middle of nowhere with you," Louis says.
In a trailer in the middle of the desert, Louis and Lestat get to know each other again.
