He'd spent countless hours awake at night thinking about the pretty boy with the poetic name. The symbolism that his brain—sick, at the time—had pulled from it was all he would talk about, oftentimes ignoring the case to focus on that. His brain would loop for hours on end thinking about it.
He can't afford to lose time like that again. Not after how that ended.
But something about the name still bothers him. Yagami is written with 'night' and 'god;' Kira thinks he's God, or at least he acts like it (95% chance he actually thinks it, though). Light didn't exactly choose his family name, though, but having 'god' in your name might make one interested in that aspiration. "
[L's manic brain had latched onto a certain boy's name long before he was ever a suspect in the Kira case. Now that he is, that name feels like evidence.]

L tilted his head away from Light. “I thought you had made the firm decision not to mind my decisions and simply go to sleep. You were really quite convinced about it. Q-quite proud of it, too.”
Light snorted out his irritation, which became a little cloud of hot air before his face.
Irritation. That was right. It irritated him. The shivering that had caused L to trip over his own words. He wanted to rub at it to erase the mistake. He wanted this conversation to be over and to finally be warm and sleep, to be really honest, but he couldn’t. Not leaving L like this. Not now that he knew he was, as usual, completely correct. L was shivering, the patently stupid genius that he was.

“You are destroying your life,” Light says.
