“There is a dog inside of you.” She had said to him, when they were back home and curled into his bed. Her feet were bare against his calf, and the heat of his body was so strong that she had to throw back the covers just to be free of it. They faced one another, though Ilya laid on his back and turned only his head toward her.
“Does it scare you?” He asked.
Svetlana had shrugged, though the dishonesty of the motion threatened to shake her. “As long as it doesn’t eat me.”
Ilya had smiled then. She remembered how it scared her. How he was supposed to be handsome, but in the dark light of his room, he only looked frightening.
