“If you’re looking for another way out, there isn’t one,” Buck says, her head tipped against the back of her seat. She’s not sure if chatting with her captor is the best idea, but it’s not like she’s ever been known for being full of those. “You can keep looking, but I know it better than you do.”
“You can shut up if you don’t have any ideas.” He doesn’t even bother pointing the gun at her this time. What’s the point? The truth is, they’re both hostages at this point, being held here by the barrels of the LAPD. “You know, you should want to help me. I’m trying to save a life.”
“Well, that’s a great motive,” she says, more snappish than is safe for her position. “I’d feel a lot more confident in your mission of mercy if you hadn’t threatened Eddie’s kid.”
(The terror she’d felt when he threatened Chris. Like her heart’s been walking around outside her body, and he’d squeezed it.)

Some days, Kaz doesn’t really know how he managed to get Chase to go out with him even once, let alone convince him to be in a full-on relationship. Chase is absolutely brilliant, like will definitely change the world with his inventions brilliant, not to mention gorgeous and surprisingly sweet but just bitchy enough to be fun to be around. He wears these soft flannel shirts that feel amazing to snuggle against on movie nights, and he’s incredibly insightful about his loved ones for someone who was raised in a basement for the majority of his life. He’s so out of Kaz’s league that it’s not funny, basically.

Chase is the first one to see it, thanks to an alert he has set up for any significant social media posts regarding the Elite Force: a slightly blurry phone picture of Kaz kissing a blonde in a black-and-gold costume, accompanied by the text omg one of those elite force guys got a new gf??? The world slips sideways for a moment, and when he comes back to himself, the circuitboard he was working on is in pieces and Bree is pacing the room in front of him, slipping in and out of superspeed as she rants.
“I can’t believe this,” she’s saying, “I’m going to wreck him. No one cheats on my brother, no one.” She scrunches up her face at her phone before slamming it down on the counter. “In public?!”

Summary
The memories aren’t fully fleshed out, only flashes of places, people, and feelings. Sometimes they’re tangible, so much so he feels like he can reach it within his fingertips and hold them there.
He’d be washing dishes, and he’d feel the phantom arms of Eddie around his waist, the junction of his neck and shoulder feeling warm. For a flash, he’d see a different kitchen than the one he was in. He’d be looking at a menu in a restaurant, and he thinks he’d hear Eddie’s voice asking, ‘You gonna order the usual?’ When he glances down at the table, he’d be surprised he’s not seeing a deep green tablecloth. He’d doze off on the couch and feel his cheek land on Eddie’s chest, arms wrapping around him, and he’d open his eyes to find himself alone.
How do you explain that away? Missing something you can’t fully remember having?
