    Summary

A new shotgun cost about $60, flour nearly $10 a barrel. Another set of boots would cost him a little over $3.
What was it worth for someone to share his life with him? Certainly more than whatever it cost for a few extra paragraphs in a periodical. David drained his shot glass and took up his pencil once more.

To the reader of this letter,

I am a bachelor aged 36 seeking a friend and helpmate in life...

A Western AU. David, a lonely rancher, publishes a personal ad in a periodical devoted to helping people find a spouse. Diarmuid, a young man living in New York, responds. They marry, and then they fall in love, in that order.

    Summary

...the monk placed his hand on Diarmuid's back and shoved him.

Diarmuid stumbled foward with a cry of surprise, flailing, falling to his knees at the stranger's feet. He loomed over Diarmuid, his expression obscured by the sun shining in Diarmuid's eyes. With one quick movement, the stranger moved toward Brother Geraldus, gripped his sword with both hands, and drove it, point down, into the white sand. Then, he grabbed Diarmuid by the arm and hauled him to his feet.

"What are you doing?" Diarmuid asked, shrugging him off. He was trembling and hated himself for it.

The man grimaced. He cast a questioning glance back at Brother Geraldus, who hissed, "Go with him, boy! It's a trade!"

A trade? Diarmuid swallowed. The sword—for himself? For what reason? "What does he want with me?"

    ---

Historical Fantasy AU. Diarmuid is taken from his monastery by a strange, silent warrior named David. He is under the impression that he is now David's servant, while, unbeknownst to him, David thinks that he's just made Diarmuid his husband.

    Summary

One minute he was still riding that high from the morning, and the next his feet felt like they weighed fifty pounds each, the pep in his step completely gone...
...It felt pathetic, just how badly he sought the attending’s praise. He’d spent an embarrassingly long amount of his time in the ED trying to prove himself worthy of Robby’s mentorship, desperate to show that his faith in him wasn’t misplaced. He couldn’t let the chief see him slacking.

Or, Dennis and McKay treat a street patient, and the shift goes drastically downhill from there.
