Wordlessly, the woman handed Rumi a glass of water and she gratefully took a sip before the water was snatched away and set down on a little side table next to a couch and a couple of chairs. Then she was pushed towards a chair, "Sit for me, pretty girl."
A thousand articles had been written about Rumi's looks. About how beautiful she was, how hot she was, about the looks she'd inherited from her mother.
And it was a 'pretty girl' from this woman that lodged itself in her chest and refused to leave.
Or, Rumi gets addicted to both the pretty stripper and the girl who works the front.

Mira shook her head and took her position back at that bar. She was too busy glaring at Abby to look at who was waiting, so their voice took her completely off guard.
"Hello, stranger," Rumi grinned up at her. "It's been a hot minute."
"Rumi?"
"Yup."
"Is—do—Zoey?" She stuttered slightly.
"I'm here too." Zoey popped up, swaying slightly from whatever she'd already drunk. "You look really great, just if you were interested."
Rumi elbowed her for that, while Mira flushed scarlet.
"Can I get you anything?"
"Just your name?" Rumi grinned, her gaze dropping obviously. "It's nice to finally learn it, Mira."
"This whole time and you read it off a damn nameplate. That's cheating." Zoey grumbled.
Or: Mira had found her feet. Not easily, not without damn hard work, but she'd found them. So why is it, whenever she runs into these two strangers, she always feels like she's falling?

Mira grins and sips on her drink, listening intently to whatever Zoey’s saying, the shorter girl gesticulating her hands wildly in the air. An ache settles in Rumi’s sternum, and that thought, that possibility—the possibility that this show can actually work—rattles through her skull.
“Hey, Celine?” she starts, not looking away from the view ahead of her. “I know it’s unconventional, but can I give out two First Impression Roses?”
Celine considers her words and follows her gaze. She presses her lips into a thin line, then she shrugs in acceptance. “Sure. After all, you’re the Bachelorette.”

The bell dings, a signal for new cafe guests arriving in the waiting room.

Rumi grins sharply, schooling her features into classy neutrality, then glances through the window of the door to the waiting area, sees two freshly familiar women, and yelps.

Hilda is delighted when, during her third extremely boring solo night shift, someone walks in the front door.
“Hellooooo!” she calls over the reception desk. She sits up in her chair and sets her takeout container in front of her. “Ooh, I love your sweater!”
A woman around her age with soft blue hair and a crown of braids looks at her with wide eyes. Hilda does actually love her sweater; a dark blue oversized chunky knitted thing someone could really hide in. She almost shrinks into it and her eyes dart back to the door she entered through.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, did I scare you?” Hilda stands, quite cutely and nonthreateningly if she may say so herself, “Hi! I’m Hilda, I’m new here. I see you let yourself in, do you also work the night shift?”
Hilda's a vampire. Marianne is not.

Rather, the cat stared up at its captor, fully exposing the key around its neck. It knew the conditions of victory and it closed its eyes in resignation as the victor’s hand descended over it. But instead of feeling a tug at its neck, the cat felt fingers softly pet the top of its head."
