Summary
Csethiro had once or twice seen then-Archduke Idra at court before his father's death, but she had not been introduced to him properly until the celebration of her wedding, and she had never met the girls Ino and Mireän at all. But Maia had said he thought it would be fitting for her to join their family meals, and even if she were inclined to deny him what little he asked of her, she had no objections to getting to know her newly-minted nieces and nephew. It was politically well-conceived too, as no doubt Maia was thinking, for the Drazhada to present a united front after what had happened with the three's mother.
Csethiro has breakfast with her new family, and learns a little of their concerns.

It surprises Jean every time, how much noise there is in the wilderness at night. Every rustle of the leaves makes her jumpy until she tunes her senses to the motion of the wind and begins to anticipate the sound. Some small animal scampers outside the cave, pauses, and then darts away, its footsteps muffled on the loam. Far away, the lonesome cry of an owl echoes through the woods.
It is into this great susurrus that Eula speaks. Her voice is so quiet that Jean almost mistakes it for another murmur of the forest before she makes out the words.
“I could kill you right now,” Eula says.
On an excursion into the wilderness, Jean and Eula find themselves confronting their worst impulses.
