"Are you sure?" Shane asks, and Ilya looks at him through the mirror.
Ilya is aware that this is something that Shane doesn't want to do. Ilya nods, and Shane turns on the hair clipper, the sound unpleasant to their ears. Shane nods to himself, pushes the hair in Ilya's forehead back, and starts cutting it out.
As the first curls start to fall, Ilya closes his eyes.

"Do you want to have that day you said?
Shane stops nuzzling his sweatpants, breathes in a last time and turns around until he's face up looking at him. Ilya touches his face for a second; his freckles, the lovely cupid's bow of his lip, the tip of his nose. Shane blinks. "You're sure?"
Ilya doesn't laugh, but it is a close thing. Is he sure? Of being fucked to death by his husband? Easiest thing he's done in his life. "Yes. You want to—what. Use me?"
Shane breathing picks up, hitches. He tears his eyes away from Ilya's, turns again until he can easily raise Ilya's shirt to press a kiss on his stomach, into a bunch of freckles he has close to his belly button. Shane loves that place. "Yes, like—" he starts, and then stops.
"Like what?" Ilya encourages him.
"Like a toy."
Ilya thinks being free use for a day will be a piece of cake. Shane is glad to prove him wrong.

Summary
At some point during the morning, after the physical therapy session leaves him raw and with a renewed, albeit more focused, pain, he hears the unmistakable sound of Leon's car entering his driveway. Connor sighs, but warmth blooms in the middle of his gut. He hates how needy he gets when this kind of loss happens; he hates the idea of anyone seeing him like this, but Leon crosses over his walls as if they were not there, as if he were the only one that understood how weak they really are.
The car stops, and keys rattle on his door, bringing in the heavy steps until a body blocks the sunlight coming from the windows, a shadow looming over Connor's closed eyes.

And then, starting at his fingertips, Shane starts to fade away, just like St-Simon and Marlow and Pike moments before. Eyes soft, Shane gazes at Ilya, not seeming to realize what’s happening at all. And Ilya, overcome with terror, can only watch as Shane’s whole being simply disintegrates into thin air.
