“Zoe! Not you too!” The Doctor shakes his head and rounds the two, stepping directly in the path between Jamie and the timelords. Zoe could get clear past should she want to, but Jamie and the Doctor both know that between the two of them she’s not the one who will go charging in. “That’s enough of that sort of talk!” He lets out a huff of air and looks from Jamie’s face to Zoe’s. “No one is going to die,” and then he mutters, as if unable to help himself, “aside from myself.”“What?” Jamie’s voice is barely a whimper.
Zoe’s voice carries much farther, “You can’t die Doctor!”
It was as if the whole world had gone mad. The Doctor? Dead? Jamie could feel his face grow red from rage as his nostrils flared. “They cannae kill you!” He glares at the timelords, but the other men seem completely unfazed. They have no idea how close they’re getting to meet their makers. “They’ll ‘ave to kill me if they want to get to ye.”
“No, no they will not.” The Doctor presses the flats of his hands on the front of Jamie’s shoulders.

The morning after the Netherfield Ball, while Mr Collins is proposing to Elizabeth, Mr Bennet collapses. With her father unconscious and apparently near death, her mother pressuring her to marry Mr Collins, and the gentleman himself ignoring her protests, suddenly saying 'no' is not so easy. Faced with poverty and homelessness if she continues refusing, the gossip soon reaches Netherfield that she will have to marry Mr Collins. Just as Mr Darcy is about to mount his horse and follow Mr Bingley to London, never to return, he overhears the servants talking. The thought of Elizabeth married to a fool like Mr Collins is unbearable to him, and he resolves to make her a better offer. But, when she refuses him, he finds that he's willing to do anything for love - even marry her without the hope of being with her.

Summary
A few minutes of pacing later, he heard movement and shuffling noises and dared to take a peek outside, opening the door a crack. If those Time Lords had really wanted to keep him from leaving, they should’ve locked the door. Guards could always be distracted and drawn away, even if they were the high and mighty Time Lords. Maybe they thought themselves above such simple measures, but Jamie didn’t care to find out.
He quickly darted out of the chamber and looked around. The TARDIS stood some distance away, alone with no one in sight. This was his chance. Now or never.
But where was Zoe? Where was the Doctor? There was no time to think. What to do?
He heard footsteps approaching and ran to the TARDIS. The invisible wall from earlier was gone and now there was nothing blocking him from slipping through the doors. The inside of it, with the console, chairs and various knickknacks scattered about, was familiar and comforted him for a moment before he resumed worrying about the Doctor and Zoe.

Jamie manages to sneak away to the TARDIS while the Time Lords are delivering the Doctor's sentence, and ends up joining the Doctor in his exile to Earth.
