It made Shane's head spin sometimes, thinking about an alternate version of life where he wasn’t in the room with them. That somewhere in the wrinkle of time, it was just Ilya and Svetlana. The way it was meant to be. They might have even gotten married, like Ilya once suggested. He couldn’t help but feel like it was a fluke of the universe, an impossible streak of luck, that made Ilya his.
As they continued to talk, Shane couldn’t help but wonder if Svetlana ever felt the same.
Or, Ilya books a birthday cottage trip for Shane with Rose, Hayden, and Jackie. Shane can’t shake the feeling that someone important is missing. Over the course of an eight hour road trip to the cottage, Shane and Svetlana come to understand each other.

This year is going to be Shane Hollander's fucking year. He's president of his beloved frat, all of his favorite bros are on his executive board (and also Troy), and his classes are finally getting good. He's convinced things can't get any better. Until Marly introduces him to his new roommate, an international student from Russia.
Ilya is cool, tall, hot, athletic, into philanthropy, has a sexy accent, and seems to want to hang out with Shane. Shane knows immeditaley that the other man HAS to join the frat, he's perfect for them in every way.
That's the only reason Shane goes out of his way to make Ilya feel welcome, to find time in his busy schedule just for him, to get up on Fridays for an additional 8am he'd never take otherwise so they can share at least one class together. No other reason.
