Summary
It was a beautiful day in Richmond today, the sun shining high in a perfect blue sky. It looked almost like a postcard, the way everything was so crisp and too perfect. But it was real, right there surrounding them, and it brought a smile to Ted’s face. A step ahead of him, he watched Henry lift his camera again, aimed down the length of the sidewalk. Ted shifted his gaze to his son’s unexpecting subjects and with the shutter of the camera, he felt the breath being taken from his lungs.
Before him, he saw wildflowers. He saw tanned skin pressed together, and blonde hair shining bright beneath the warm sunlight.
He saw her before she saw him, her head angled down at the little girl beside her, their arms linked together in a crooked way to account for the height difference between them. The young brunette held a large bouquet of wildflowers in her opposite arm, and it made the smile on his face grow wider.

Summary
Nothing good comes out of a middle-of-the-night phone call. It’s never someone calling to say they got the job, or that they’re engaged, or that something finally worked out the way it was supposed to. Those calls wait for morning and a version of the world where good news has room to exist. A call that comes at night only ever means something has gone wrong, that someone is awake when they shouldn’t be, choosing words they don’t want to say. And somewhere else, someone is about to answer, not knowing that whatever comes next will divide everything into before and after.
When Ted faces a personal tragedy, Rebecca boards a plane without hesitation.
