Harry liked to think that if he were a man-eating tiger, not even Vernon would want anything to do with him because, after all, Vernon was a man and that is what man-eating tigers ate.
From that day on, instead of wishing that his parents would appear magically at his front door and whisk him away, Harry wished instead that he could become a tiger. No one would hurt him then. They would be far too scared and Harry would finally, finally be safe.

"I... I don't want to go to prison, sir," Harry heaves out, his voice catching painfully in his throat. He forces himself to look at the old man again even though his eyes keep wanting to wander back toward the spiders. "I-I didn't do anything wrong. I was hungry. I—"
"You ate a living person, Harry Potter," the old man says tiredly.
The words sound as though admitting them hurts something inside him.
Harry shakes his head immediately. "No. I ate a pig," he explains, because surely the old man has misunderstood something. "I-I needed food. I was going to die."
"But you knew that pig was your cousin Dudley, Harry."

After the final battle and a brief period of peace everything goes to shit again. The Wizarding World has always been fickle but Harry hadn't realized they were fickle enough to turn on him so soon after the dust had settled. Forced to flee after once more being labeled as "Undesirable No. 1" Harry manages to evade capture for over 2 years before being brought in for a trial that feels like more of a farce than when he was forced to face the entire Wizengamot for an underage magic charge. He's not surprised by the verdict or even his sentence, what does surprise him is waking up again.
