Summary
Nie Mingjue has only one belief that keeps him going ever since Jin Guangyao betrayed him by killing the commander of his guards. He never spoke about it to anyone, until an accident forces him to confide in Lan Xichen. From that moment on, an increasingly deep and secret bond develops between the two, while the world around them slowly sinks into darkness.
When Wei Wuxian falls off a cliff and is presumed dead, his body is never found. During his funeral, and everyone mourns a man they perhaps have never lost.

He stood at the foot of the wardrobe, stretching up on his tiptoes and waving a handful of expensive freeze-dried salmon in the air. "It's already lunch, and you haven't eaten anything since morning! Come on, eat your treats. They’re good for your pregnancy! You need the nutrients!"
Suowei didn't even flick an ear in his direction.
From the hallway, another booming, tragic yowl vibrated through the front door. Suowei let out a pathetic answering meow from the top of the wardrobe, tucking his paws under his chest as if the separation was physically destroying him.
"Oh, don't you start with that Romeo and Juliet crap!" Xiaoshuai snapped, pointing an accusatory finger at his traitorous son. "You're not star-crossed lovers! He's a home invader who knocked you up, and you're grounded!"
Cheng let out another yowl at his front door.
