The tone alone made it abundantly clear he was not bluffing. From behind his spectacles, Pantalone observed the subtle tensing of the Segment’s shoulders, a split-second giveaway that would have gone unnoticed by anyone else.
Pantalone’s daily checkup started with nothing but sheer irritation. Yet, despite the initial annoyance, everything that unfolded along the way ended his stay on a surprisingly pleasant note.

Zandik didn’t have enough time but Feofan did. The folder of his origin had been bound in red with incomplete theories and results. 65 and 8 were the last to probe into his origin. A plague had been the excuse they used to dig up corpses to exhume and when Zandik created 65, the segment took on the partial job of finding his missing village. Inconclusive. No leads. He told him he was content.
(AKA When my Brainworms told me to find a way to bring back the Doctor for a happy ending and I had to cross the multiverse to grab a plot device)

“You know,” Pantalone muses, smoothing a palm over the leather armrest. “The Mayor may have managed something remarkable here after all.”
Zandik hardly bats an eye at the non-sequitur. “Praising the Rooster? My, you’re full of surprises today.”
“Oh, you don’t even know the half of it.” The smile that teases Pantalone’s lips is slow and serpentine. “But credit where credit is due. It appears Pulcinella has managed to disguise a confessional as an occupational benefit.”
Pantalone and Zandik make thorough use of the Fatui’s newest amenities. They both get a little more than they bargained for in the exchange. Or: an ode to the Scarlet Proof artifact set.
