Summary
Most people didn't manifest the mark of their soulmate right away. Oh, sure, it happened – it had happened with Lucifer, before anyone had known what a soulmate even was, before anyone had realised such a thing was possible for angels – but it was pretty uncommon.
And it was absolutely possible for it to break – or fade. It was pretty unlikely on Earth, hardly ever happened during the span of a regular human life – but when the souls in question were immortal? Yeah, sometimes things changed. Relationships grew distant, love degraded. Once you'd experienced the bond fading – or worse, breaking? – no, most people were a little wary about throwing themselves into a new relationship.

Lucifer has experienced having a soulmate. Alastor says the very idea of soulmates is ridiculous. Something is dreadfully wrong, because Lucifer is seeing shadows move out of the corner of his eye - and Alastor's claws are glowing golden.

Frederica stopped. The soft voice of interrupting her prayer sounded amused. She looked around cautiously, and there was no one present for as far as the eye could see. The wind curls around her, in the familiar way that she had always attributed to the favor that her family carries. Frederica forces herself to stand taller.
