Really, Chaeryeong thinks, making brief eye contact with the embarrassed-looking driver through the tinted window, they’ve got it all wrong. It wasn’t the lack of albums, or the sparse touring, or the mistimed hiatus that tore through the group in the end. Five members meant five different directions, after all, each with its own gravitational force of desire and need. Yuna refused to speak to Jisu for a week after she sat them all down and told them she was leaving ITZY for good. Yeji had been slated to debut as a soloist first, but was then passed over after longer complications with her injury. Ryujin got the better song, but in a stroke of random luck Yuna’s went so viral that it propelled her into stardom with the general public.

Anyone else and Chaeryeong would’ve hexed them to the North Sea for that. But it’s just Ryujin, stupid and tactless and boyish and decidedly un-Slytherin, and privately Chaeryeong likes being at the receiving end of this kind of easy ribbing, where a joke is a joke and not a scathing critique wrapped in twelve layers of small talk.

“That has always been the problem, hasn’t it?” Emily said. “You don’t know. You don’t know what you want until someone else has paid the price. You don’t know whether you want fashion or journalism, ambition or virtue, New York or elsewhere, me or the clean little story where leaving was brave because staying would have been complicated.” Andrea’s face went white. Emily kept going, her voice barely a whisper. “You arrive twenty years later with slightly better trousers and a sad little apology, and I am meant to do what, exactly? Admire your growth? Provide texture for your article? Reassure you that the woman you abandoned has done splendidly, actually, so no harm done?”
OR
Andrea leaves Emily, who has famously not got over a single thing in her life. Now Andrea's back with a vengeance - and Emily is taking the vengeance part quite literally. Minimal plot, quite a bit of smut from chapter two onward. For the love of God, please heed the tags.
