Shortly after arriving at the Shattered Plains, Dalinar seeks out his old friend Kadash. He knows the church should be made aware what he did on the way there, and unfortunately for his friend's tenuous sanity, there's only one ardent he feels comfortable discussing it with.

Dalinar briefly mentions in The Way of Kings that he had to pay penance to the church for visiting the Nightwatcher, which means he must have told an ardent about it. Here's how I think that conversation went.
