Summary
"I don't think the future is something to be afraid of," Charles says, his earnestness radiating off of him.
Erik considers, not for the first time, telling Charles what he is, letting him know that this future he's so desirous to meet is sitting right in front of him, fairly drunk and swept up in the force of his belief. At the moment it seems like it could never go wrong, that Charles would be the one person who could understand, who might even delight in it. It would be so easy to say, and it's easier still to imagine being known utterly without fear.
"I wish I shared your optimism," Erik says gently. He's surprised to find the words to be true.
(Or: Neither Erik nor Charles has gotten around to mentioning that they're mutants. The unusual new patient at their hospital might just change that.)

"On your mission?"
"You were the one to get us started. I thought you might like to see things through."
Erik remains stiff-backed and imperial at a casual glance but Charles knows him well enough to note a hint of discomfort, possibly nerves. Charles doesn't retract the offer and resists the urge to press either.
Eventually Erik rewards his patience. "Alright," he says, with remarkable ease.
(Or: In the midst of potential reconciliation, Magneto goes into rut.)
