“Happy winner,” Rozanov says, kissing Shane’s hip. “How does it feel? Good, yes? Such a strong alpha.”
Despite the teasing lilt, a soft, rolling r in strong, Shane can tell that Rozanov is being sincere. He has never gotten the impression that Rozanov uses it as an insult with him—unlike every time he whips it out mid-game to taunt an opponent, or to provoke someone in an interview. Shane blinks down at him, and is reminded of what this is. Of why, in every way, they are implausible.
Rozanov adds, “What?”
“You just never call me that,” Shane says.

Shane laid there for a bit, breathing deep and letting Ilya’s body regulate him as he worked up the words to his mouth that he first set out to say this morning. Picking his head up, he focused his eyes on Ilya’s lips.
“I wish I could wear my collar.”
The lips in front of him spread into a wry smile. “Ah. Why can’t you?”
“I can’t wear something that kinky to a charity event, Ilya.”

Shane explores devotion, control, internalized ableism, and what path being a cis man in the hockey world has put him on at a charity event. After experiencing the relief of letting Ilya take care of him for an evening, Shane returns the favor.
