The holy man descended the church steps. “Fetch him,” he commanded.
“No need, I’m already here,” a new voice answered.
Kaito turned to the voice and saw a beautiful man approaching the service. He wore a cream-colored tunic underneath a midnight blue tailcoat with silver buttons. His trousers were dark and his black leather boots went all the way up his calves. His dark hair was neat except for a rather endearing cowlick that stuck up in the back. But what held Kaito’s attention were the man’s eyes. His eyes were a piercing blue that held a cold intelligence, but Kaito thought he could also see a hidden sadness deep in their depths.
The man walked with confidence toward the body, or more specifically the bowl of biscuits. His expression was neutral, maybe even a little disinterested. Kaito recognized a mask when he saw one. He noticed that the people around him seemed to shrink away, not wanting to be too close to the newcomer. Many of them looked at the beautiful man in open disgust, though Kaito couldn’t fathom why. The man ignored them and continued approaching the bowl.
Hattori leaned forward to speak to Kaito again, “That’s Kudo Shinichi, the Sin Eater.”
