Penelope's head tilted slightly, her curiosity sparked. “Where are you going?”
“Just a short trip along the coast,” Colin replied with an easy smile. “Fresh air, good food—maybe even a little adventure.”
Michael glanced between them, already toying with an idea. A slow, mischievous grin spread across his face as he leaned forward. “You should come with us, Penelope.”
The table fell into a brief, stunned silence. All eyes turned to her. Colin, caught off guard, sat frozen, his fork hovering midair.
Penelope blinked, caught off guard. “Me?”
“Why not?” Michael said, his tone casual but his eyes gleaming. “You could use a break, couldn’t you? And it’d be nice to have some company besides this one.” He gestured at Colin, grinning.
Colin quickly recovered, trying to mask his surprise. “That’s… actually not a bad idea. What do you say, Pen?”

Summary
I saw a post on the Polin subreddit where someone was worried Polin stories have slowed down so I spent my day off writing this one shot.
This is a childhood friends to lovers story inspired by Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington but set in the 19th Century rural Midwest US. I kind of thought "what if Polin was more in Little House on the Prairie than Bridgerton" and this is the product.
No smut. Just Fluff.
No Beta Reader I literally sat down this morning and wrote it as I went so please keep that in mind!
