Persephone. He liked to say her whole name, the whole mouthful of it. It was warm, somehow, in his low rumbling—the many-syllabled formality somehow affectionate in its completeness. Like he wanted to hold all of her in his mouth, in his hands, in his prison-paradise of slinking shadows and blinding ore that threatened to swallow them, both of them, no matter the cost to the weather.
She took a deep breath, her voice trepidacious and hopeful at once, “you’re early.”
